Recipe: German Apple Cake
Ingredients:
Apple Slices
- 5 Apples (cooking – such as Gingergold, McIntosh)
- 5 Tbs. sugar
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- Peel, core, and slice apples thin. Toss with sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and set aside.
Batter
- 3 cups flour
- 1 cup salad oil
- 2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup orange juice
- 4 eggs
- 2 t vanilla
- ½ tsp. salt
- 1 ½ tsp. baking powder
- 1 ½ tsp. baking soda
Directions:
Blend the ingredients with an electric mixer and beat at high speed for 3 minutes. The batter should be very thick. Grease and flour 10” tube pan or bundt pan. Alternate with batter and apples in layers, starting with batter and ending with batter (3 batter layers and 2 apple layers).
Bake 350 degrees for 1 ½ hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven. Cool in pan upright for 10 minutes. Then remove to a cake plate to cool completely. Glaze when completely cool.
Glaze:
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 Tbs. Oleo
- 2 tsp. water
